Newsletter Sept. 3-7, 2013
Mrs. Deckerd’s Kindergarten Class
Week of September 3-7, 2013
This week your child will bring home our first take-home book, “I Can!” Keep all take-home books together and practice reading them often. This will come home in your child’s purple reading folder along with some important reading handouts and your child’s reading log.
I did not send this home last week because we were just not ready for our first book yet...with me being gone on Tuesday, and the installation of our new Smartboard, I felt it best to wait until this week.
This week Ms. A will come to visit. She has a bit of a cold, and one loud “AAAAAA-choo!”
We will be working on one-to-one correspondence counting to five. We are also working on identifying numbers 0-10. We are reviewing shapes this week, and will also begin simple AB patterns soon. We are practiving how to correctly write the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. You can pracrice these numbers at home with a dry erase board, or even using shaving cream!
We are talking about the rules of our classroom and school daily. We are trying very hard to not only understand why these rules are so important, but also follow them. We are learning names of our friends, along with teachers and important people that work in our school.
Johnny Appleseed’s birthday is in September, and all of this month we will be learning about apples. How do apples grow? What are things that we make with apples? What is your favorite type of apple? These are just a few of the questions we will learn the answers for this month.
